Andy, Marilyn, and I (as well as Dr. Don and ER nurse Emily) just finished speaking with Mom’s doctor.  Although she would not give a specific number to the chance of Mom surviving this, the list of conditions (bacterial pneumonia, congestive heart failure, kidney failure, covid) means it is highly unlikely – and even if she did ‘survive’, her quality of life would like be such that she would not want.

Despite the bypass oxygen (which is uncomfortable) she is still struggling to breathe.  She has a DNR along, with no ventilator intubation instruction, so I asked about medication to relax her.  While morphine would help that, it would also stress her heart.  My feeling is we need to make her death as easy as possible, and Andy and Marilyn agree.  So they are going to try a low dose of morphine.

Andy can’t go in to be with her (he and Sandy are quarantining due to possible covid exposure from Mom) so Ed & Emily are on their his way to the hospital so she won’t be alone.  He is going to set up zoom so the rest of us can say goodbye.
