After I got the grocery shopping out of the way I took my quilts over to Jeannie's; she and Janelle were just getting back from a birthday breakfast.  Here a discussion is under way about whether Ruby can quilt over some of the busier intersections of her paper-pieced Shades of Gatorade.  (Ruby can!)

This center medallion will have a border of flying geese (said geese being currently under construction using some of those same fabrics.)

Sherry came by with a quilt top given to her decades ago by her (now deceased) grandmother, although she isn't sure if it's her grandmother's work or that of someone else.  Some of the blocks are hand-stitched, while others are machine sewn, and the general consensus was that she should just have Jeannie quilt it using an E2E pattern, saving her custom quilting fund for something that needs it.

Here is the Modern on Westcott quilt Jeannie wanted me to see.

Perfect backing fabric!

Here are a few  detail shots so you can see the fun she had quilting it.

Jeannie is one of the NW Valley drop-off  locations (Sharon is another) for the upcoming quilt show (having volunteers in various areas saves us from having to schlep over to Mesa for that!) and she showed us some of  her friends' quilts that have been already dropped off. And then she showed us the Judy Niemeyer quilt she just finished custom quilting (it will go into next year's show.)  That quilt was on Ruby for 2 weeks (she joked that she ended up working for 10¢/hour) and took up an inordinate amount of time - but OMG is it gorgeous!!!

Because each flame in the lighter triangles was a different size, Jeannie had to putz with EACH ONE instead of making one and then doing the copy/paste thing.

So now I am in a quilting frame of mind (for a change?!) and may work on one of my projects this afternoon.  And speaking of a quilting frame of mind - I came across the following clip when I was looking for a picture.
I understand the process behind making 2 faces appear, depending on whether you view a quilt from the left or from the right.  But somehow (!!!) Flora Joy managed to make 3 perfectly recognizable portraits appear: Jackie Kennedy, Oprah, Mother Teresa.   NO CLUE how she managed that (though maybe there's a tutorial on it somewhere?), but you can still enjoy this short video clip of her talking about her quilt at the Houston show.

Not surprisingly, she won Viewers Choice with her amazing quilt.
