Havasu Quilt Show

I'm home from Lake Havasu City, where I spent a delightful weekend.  The drive up was uneventful; by leaving early on Friday I arrived before the weather hit.  Although of course I had a good book with me to read I didn't have to wait as long as I expected because Tami got home from work almost an hour early.  We had a delicious steak dinner at Cha-Bone's (wish the steaks I cooked at home would melt in my mouth like that!) and then shopped at a fun boutique (the same one we went to when Mom and I were there last February, and found lots of goodies to come home with us.)

On the way to the quilt show on Saturday morning Tami was telling me about the custom truck quilt that the local chapter made and which rides in the parade each year.  Sounded like quite a project - and when we got to the show, there is was, parked outside, in all its glory.
Tami had always wondered why none of the quilt ladies rode in the bed of the truck during the parade, and we saw why - the quilt stretches over the entire bed of the truck.  QUITE an undertaking!

Of course I took pix of lots of the quilts, and here are some of them.  Although it goes without saying I'll say it anyway - the pictures never do the quilts justice! (And especially when they refuse to post right-side up, as saved.... like this Americana one...grrrrrrr)

A couple of close-ups should help a bit:

"Blueberries, anyone?" got my vote in the Small Quilt category.

I narrowed the Large Quilts down to four, and ultimately chose the "Snowman Collector" as my favorite.

The workmanship (especially the quilting) on this Log Cabin was beautiful.

I really liked how the chevron blocks set off the other blocks - watch for this idea in a quilt of mine one of these days.

This fanciful chicken quilt was in a vendor's booth.  It made me think of Kim, and maybe the 'fried egg' flowers will give her an idea for her chicken quilt.
Here's a quilt I thought Mom would enjoy.  Looks like a BQ pattern to me, which is what I used to make her giraffe quilt.

There was also an appraisal booth, and the LHC Humane Society was selling some hand-pieced tops that had been donated.  I thought the prices were quite reasonable, and wonder if some of the ladies would be interested in purchasing them?

Later that afternoon we went to a Miche bag party that Tami had been invited to.  Very interesting concept of keeping one purse but changing its 'skin' for a whole different look without having to constantly move the purse's contents.  Tami bought one, and so did her mom.

After dinner Allan built a fire in their new outdoor fireplace (considerable progress back there since my visit last February) and we spent a very pleasant evening sitting out there visiting.  And my picture of Tami and Allan (snapped in the dark) came out great - this is with no cropping, folks!

And that was my weekend in Havasu.  :-)
