Steve came back over with his brother and SIL who wanted to buy some of Tom's fire obsidian. While they were looking at the stones and trying to decide which ones to take home with them (tough decisions!) Steve helped me sift through my tonnage of scrap strips to pull out the blue and yellow ones.
Then the pump truck arrived to clean out the pipe under the street. They eventually got it unplugged (as bad as it was it's surprising that any water was getting through) but naturally there's another problem; the pipe has broken in (at least) one place so they'll need to tear up the street to replace it. In the meantime all the gunk that was being forced out has ended up in Hoogie's pipe (I didn't realize his ditch was buried) so all the stuff is still in there 'somewhere' and thus likely to continue to impede the flow of water. I can hardly wait <?!?!> to see what happens next irrigation.
All this explains (in part) why I still haven't found time to post more quilt show pix. I'm getting ready to do that now, though Colleen may be stopping over (to deliver some kugel) after picking up the girls at school.
I've seen this bright and cheery quilt of Wanda's 'up close and personal', but didn't realize (or maybe just didn't remember) that it was done in a mystery quilt class.
There were quite a large number of other quilts from that class on display;
here are a couple that I especially liked. Any guesses why? <g>
The embroidered houses were cute!
I also enjoyed the Round Robin quilts that a group of 5 women made.
The body of the butterfly was 3D
and so were these 'leaves'.
This Mariner's Compass was very impressive -
check out the detailed quilting!
Others were considerably simpler, but still pleasing to the eye!
These bunnies are awfully cute!
For twins?
A few landscape interpretations:
Flora is always a popular subject -
The dandelion quilt used creative materials -
This one had lovely embroidered flowers.
And as a reward for getting to the end of this post, this quilt was absolutely STUNNING! I thought I'd taken some close-ups, but apparently not. The quilting was done freehand, and is beyond incredible. Hard to believe it only took second place!
