I hadn't spoken to Marcela recently, but after the heavy rains in SoCal I texted her to see if all was okay there.  Got a cryptic message back that there was a lot going on and she'd call when she had time to talk, which turned out to be today.

And that's when I found out that she had a hemorraghic stroke last month
and was in the hospital for a week!

She lost about 50% of her vision (much of which - thankfully! - seems to be returning), and some language skills.  Since she doesn't have high blood pressure, or any of the other triggers, it was mostly likely due to stress.

YIKES!
