They didn't even start prepping Tom for surgery until almost 7:00 last night (the surgeon had yet another emergency that delayed things) so I was somewhat surprised when the surgeon called at 11:15 to say that the surgery had gone well and Tom was headed back to the ICU.

Now I'm getting ready to head over to the hospital and see just how miserable he is today.  I know they plan to get him out of bed and sitting in a chair this morning.  No doubt Tom will be less than thrilled with that, but he knows he needs to, and the morphine should help (!) so I guess he'll just have to go to that "suck it up" guy place in his head.

We did ask Tom's nurse yesterday if he had any idea about the price tag for this little 'adventure', and his guesstimate was staggering.  Just as an example, the machine that monitors the balloon they inserted during the angiogram Monday (and said balloon turned out to be in place for at least 24 hours) costs $6,000/hour!  (For you math-impaired folks, that a quick 144K right there.)  So it seems like Tom is finally getting some 'use' (!) out of his very pricey individual healthy insurance.  I know I got a lot of use out of mine this year!
Modern Medicine is wonderful.... too bad it's so incredibly expensive!
