Mom had let me know that the Discovery Channel was airing a penguin program last night (Waddle All The Way) so I set the TV to record (especially important since the 2-hour show wasn't starting until 10:00) and then let Laura and Ruth (quilters who are also penguin collectors) in on the good news. The blurb said it would highlight the penguin cam that allows footage human photographers can't get; we had just seen a segment about that penguin cam on the news a few nights ago.
Dinner at Jeannie & Rich's last night. She made chili, I made corn muffins, Patricia (and AnnaLisa) brought decadent desserts. It was a perfect dinner on a cold, wet, wintery evening!
After dinner Tom and Rich watched the ASU football game while we played Mexican Train dominoes. There WAS 'much joy in Mudville' yesterday; both UofA and ASU won their football games.
For those of you who are confused -
"Casey at the Bat: A Ballad of the Republic Sung in the Year 1888" is a baseball poem written in 1888 by Ernest Thayer. First published in The San Francisco Examiner on June 3, 1888, it was later popularized by DeWolf Hopper in many vaudeville performances. Tim Wiles, Director of Research at the Baseball Hall of Fame Library in Cooperstown, frequently dresses up as Casey to recite the poem.
Casey at the Bat was one of many poems that Dad used to recite to me when I was growing up. so it always brings him to mind.
We got home right at 10:00, and I actually made it through the first hour of the penguin documentary before I had to go to bed. Nothing on for today (other than cleaning up around here and maybe doing a little Thanksgiving prep) until chicken & noodles dinner tonight at Patti's. She had called yesterday afternoon to invite us, and when I had to decline because of our prior commitment, she decided to switch those dinner plans to tonight. Lucky us!
