I had no trouble going to sleep last night at 10:30 (even though it was only 6:30 in Arizona) and thus wasn't that surprised when I woke up around 6:30.  Pippa had spent the night downstairs with me, so I took her upstairs 'just in case she had forgotten' how to find the dog door, and visited with Sandy.  I was surprised, however, to fall asleep again after I crawled back into bed - and then slept until almost 10:00!

Andy had gone to Towson to get some testimony from a client (easier than rescheduling) but Sandy was still packing and hadn't yet left to pick up Mom and head to the shore.  I took my shower and was just having my breakfast when Andy arrived back here a little after 11:00.  On his way home Channel 13 News (the CBS affiliate) called him for an interview. They actually wanted him to come into the studio, but that wasn't happening, so they did it via phone, and he was on TV already this morning.  Apparently the State's Attorney has filed charges against 5 or 6 of the officers, and they wanted Andy's take on that.  His interview went out on the AP wire, and now news stations from around the country have been calling for additional interviews. In fact just as we were leaving he had to grab a suit because a west coast statin is planning to send a remote crew out to interview Andy tonight.

While we were on the road a producer from MSNBC's Hardball called with some questions for Andy in preparation for tonight's show. Between her questions and Andy's answers I got a very in-depth understanding of the case.

Accident 8 miles before we got to the Bay Bridge - the news says it's an overturned vehicle, and we are close enough, just a few hundred yards away, to see LOTS of emergency vehicles with their flashing lights - has us stopped.  If we'd left just a minute or two earlier we would have been ahead of it... But then Andy would not have gotten the last minute heads up a out the possible interview and grabbed a suit.  Not only do the emergency vehicles just keep coming and coming to that accident, but there have been at least a dozen (probably more) emergency vehicles, with lights flashing and sirens blaring, going by in the west-bound lanes of 50.  Something bad in that direction also!

We ended up sitting there for two hours before they let one lane of traffic through, and we were not surprised to hear later that it had been a fatal accident.  So by the time we got across the bridge and stopped for lunch it was well after 3:00.  Pippa was a real trouper, and behaved wonderfully on the long ride.

We had planned to get crabs tonight, but since we'd all had a late lunch we did chili instead.  We're saving the crab fest for tomorrow.  Now I hope to stay up long enough to hear Andy interviewed on another news show tonight.
