Cindy and I had fun yesterday afternoon starting on her t-shirt quilt, although we didn't make as much progress as hoped. She may return on Thursday to continue, although now that she's retired from teaching, getting it done over summer break is no longer an issue. We caught up on each other's lives, and rewarded our (not so) hard work with chocolate cheesecake she brought over.

In recent days I also touched base with Tami, working on a rendezvous in nice cool Flagstaff. Anita is going to join us (from Sacramento) now that she's retired from teaching. At the end of our somewhat lengthy conversation, Tami remembered to mention (as an afterthought!) that she'd gotten a new car about a month ago... because she'd flipped hers outside of Quartzsite (driving back to Lake Havasu from Phoenix.)  Happy to report that although the car was totaled, she was not injured. Lucky, lucky, lucky!
No idea where this picture was taken, but pretty sure <G> that it isn't Phoenix in July...

Also spoke with Teresa, who had gotten concerned when she couldn't get hold of me (because I was in Show Low.) Her son is a firefighter in Colorado, so of course she always worries about him - mothers are like that!   But the recent tragedy in Yarnell certainly brought her worries front and center.

Their most recent trail ride into the back country over the 4th was cancelled; partly because the forest service was worried about folks being trapped in the middle of nowhere during a fire and closed the forest, and partly (which I hadn't thought about, but it makes sense!) because a horseshoe on a rock could be the thing to spark a fire.

It was a MUCH more pleasant temperature in the bedroom last night since I 'fixed' the thermostat, although I was still up early (before light.)  Now it's just a little after 5:00, and finally light enough to go work on those pesky dead branches on the Back 40 hedge.  As Dad used to say:

Have a great Wednesday!  I'm off to quilting in several hours, and plan to turn in my annual quota of two preemie quilts.  Will take a pic and post later.  Now I want to get outside before it gets TOO hot!
