Alex and I went over to PVCC to buy his books, get his parking permit, and check out the actual locations of his classes. (His algebra book weighs a ton; my bathroom scale, definitely not known for its accuracy, says only 6 pounds, but Alex, who has some serious experience with free weights, says it's much more. And I believe it!) We checked out the gym, which looked nice to me, but he said was missing something (free weights?) However he should get plenty of exercise just lugging the math book around - and if he opens it his brain will get exercise also!
The campus is very attractive, and I liked that there were alcoves/couches/ tables everywhere, complete with computer hook-ups, so there's NO excuse not to get work done, whether you prefer to work singly in quiet, or in a group with others. I was also surprised at the size of the campus, which was much bigger than I realized. Alex is going to have to really hoof it to get from building M (on the 'main' part of campus) to building Q. It's so far out in the boonies that they had provided a map of the best way to walk there. It's got its own entrance from the street; we couldn't even drive there from the main campus.
The pain at the bookstore was a little less than expected since we were able to rent 2 of the books, and buy 1 used one, but it's not yet over: The 4th book was unavailable (it's still on back-order) and of course we'll have to pay new price for that one. I was excited to look though the books when we got home, and in one stumbled across a column by our own E.J. Montini.
