The trees love the deep watering, but if we had to do that much watering 'by hand' we'd be out there with a hose 24/7... AND we'd have a humongous water bill. Of course that means the grass and weeds are also happy, so there's a lot of mowing. A few years ago we started seeing a new weed I'd never seen before, and it just got mowed along with everything else.
But at some point a number of those weeds missed a mowing,
and actually had a chance to bloom and show their stuff-
and actually had a chance to bloom and show their stuff-
After some research I found out that it's called chamomile daisy.
Such a happy plant!
Now we've got quite the weed crop growing in the front yard, and I haven't wanted to mow because I'd really like to enjoy the eventual blooms. I really thought the little pods would burst into bloom after the last irrigation cycle, but they didn't. Finally had to mow the front yard today since it was starting to look like a foreclosed property (plus trash pickup is tomorrow and I didn't want to 'waste' empty trash cans - we can only feed the neighbors' horses so much before I put them at risk for colic) but did leave a neatly un-mowed swath in front of the living room window for future enjoyment. This is what I'm hoping that swath will morph into shortly after the upcoming irrigation:
FYI Irrigation comes at whatever time on the cycle we end up, depending on how many folks are ahead of us in line. Two weeks ago we got the 2:30 - 4:30 a.m. slot, which meant I had to get up at 4:25 and slog out to let the water go. (Not as bad as that time slot during the winter, but still not something I'd choose.) The good news is that obviously someone else has since signed up because this time we got 4:25 - 6:25 a.m.
