"Class" with Tami progressed well yesterday. We started her lesson on a scrap, then moved on to one of the Disappearing 4-Patch blocks she'd sewn in April. It was destined to be part of a set of place mats, but has ended up as a pot holder or hot pad. She practiced her stitch-in-the ditch, then echo quilting, and finally free motion loopies. We even got to the binding stage, where she caught on right away hot to fold the corners.
Now she just has to do the final blind-stitching at home on her own.
At each step Tami had stressed over her lack of perfection, though I tried to impress upon her it IS her first foray into quilting, and truly would not matter so much by the end. After all we all had to start somewhere! So she was pleasantly surprised at how well the final project actually turned out.
Then she was ready to start quilting on her table runner. At some point we discovered two mistakes. She was stunned and amazed that neither of us had caught them until that point, which proved (!) that most mistakes are just not noticeable to anyone but the quilt maker!
Marcie came over after lunch to visit with Tami again and check her progress. We challenged her to find the mistakes, and when they didn't immediately jump out at her Tami felt better.
Here's how far Tami got with the quilting process before she had to hit the road yesterday mid-afternoon. Still some work to be done on it, but that'll have to wait until September at least. However we should be able to make her Easter deadline <g> without (too much) trouble.
For the picture we had strategically folded over the quilt, in theory to show off the pretty flowered backing... but also to hide one of the piecing mistakes (which we can't even blame on alcohol!)
Can YOU spot the mis-turned half-square triangle block
in this picture from April?
The other (not quite so flagrant!) mistake was that one of the white-on-cream background blocks is sewn in upside down, so the wrong side of the fabric shows on the front.
I made more progress on Maggie's bib yesterday while Tami was hard at work, and now I just have to stitch the final "E" bunny. In theory <g> I should easily get that done before I blast off for Colorado soon.
Bailey's quilt arrived safely at its new home in Connecticut.
I received a gushing thank you from her mom, with these pictures.
I cannot believe how LATE I slept in this morning....
guess I must have needed it?!
Only thing on today's agenda is to pick up my Rx and then start packing for Colorado. Terry sent this so I'd be "prepared":
We are getting a little break from the hot and dry weather -
some rain yesterday and only up in the 70s today. So be prepared with
your sweatshirts when you come 😊.
Always hard to remember everything I'll need for the tundra weather up there
when it's so toasty down here!
