Tuesday night we went out for dinner at the Genghis Grill. Carlo begged off, but Wanda joined us. The traffic light at 59th & Bell was out, which made a mess of things (and rain never helps the driving situation here!) but we eventually arrived and enjoyed a delicious dinner.
I was 'on' for dinner last night. With the weather it seemed like a good day to simmer a crockpot of beef stew. Also got the bread-maker out (for the first time in this season) and made a loaf of bread to go with it. Some fresh grapefruit off the tree, and voila - dinner.
Luisa had a family emergency yesterday and had to cancel Mom's appointment (rescheduled for Friday afternoon) so we spent a lazy day at home. There was a fair amount of Rummikub, and I've finally redeemed myself and surged ahead of Mom. One hand my tiles fell into place and I managed to go out early, catching her with 102 points - possibly a personal best for me.
Made a run to the library to pick up 3 books (and as usual another one came in later in the day.) Also talked with the librarian to solve a couple of mysteries about the Hold system. One question turned out to be explainable; the other not so much (and she's going to look into it.)
There were several calls about irrigation yesterday. Bottom line is that the (new) people ahead of us on our leg cancelled because it was 'going to be a problem' (!) to get up in the middle of the night to do the gates on 35th Ave. Of course after having had the "pleasure" of doing it in the middle of the night way too many times over the past two decades, we know all about that!
So zanjero Terry did the gates this time (and those folks will be fined, and removed from auto sign-up) but bottom line is that it looks like we will be back to having to do those gates from now on.
I remember how happy we were when new people moved in up-ditch and decided to take water. Too bad that joy has been short-lived. Looks like that bluebird of happiness is heading elsewhere to land...
There is another house up-ditch that is going up for sale as soon as renovations are finished, so there's always the chance that the folks who buy it will sign up for water.
I went to bed early last night, hoping to get a fair amount of sleep before rising around 3;00 am to let our water go. Unfortunately I woke up at several times during the night, the last time at 1:00, and then was up until it was time to let the water go at 3:12. At least I had new reading material from the library. Yes I would have loved to sleep in a little later than 7:30 this morning (and no one else is up yet) and assumed that taking a Lunesta when I came back in would have accomplished that. Just hate it when I'm wrong!
The only thing on our agenda today is a visit to Patti at some point. Her surgery yesterday got pushed to 1:00, but she was still home by 5:00... though not feeling too chipper!
Of course there's always the "mandatory" weed-pull after irrigation. We have a bumper crop of dandelions this year, and of course it's easier to pull them when the ground is soggy. Also a plus to get to them before they turn into giants with serious root systems.
