Smile For Today is totally understandable if you've ever had a kitten.

And these New Classroom Rules are totally understandable if you've ever taught school!

Mom went with me to Foothills quilting this morning.

Mary gave a wonderful demo of ways to use the half-hexie templates.

Basically, you make rows of half hexagons and then simply sew them together.
MUCH easier that dealing with regular hexagons!

And of course there are endless variations!  This looks like a great idea for a border.

Here's a 3D effect, from Strip Therapy.

Look at the cute boat block Linda made using the half hexies.

Mary discovered that the smaller template works great on jellyroll strips.

She keeps her jellyroll strips neat and orderly by looping them over a hanger and pinning them 'shut'.

With the end of the calendar year approaching, the ladies are feeling the pressure to turn in the 2 required preemie quilts.  I was happy to be on the list of those who have already turned her two in, but when Mom asked about what I made, I honestly couldn't remember!

Here are the two Laura brought in today.

And here are Jan's.

Sue shared some (unfinished) tops that were hand-pieced by her husband's grandmother.  The fabrics (including muslins and feedsacks) are quite fragile.

And this one they think was done by his great-grandmother!

Sue says that included with the tops were fabrics to finish them up.

Our newest member, Carolyn MacAlpine, showed a stunning Flying Swallows quilt that she named Insanity.... it's made from 1.5" strips.

This one of hers, "Pieces of Baltimore", is pieced instead of appliqued.

Carolyn used leftover strips to make up this one that reminded us of the 3 Dudes quilt.

Carolyn Nelson liked the casserole carrier (that was demo-ed at our last meeting) so much that she made up this one in pretty autumn fabric.

Sharon's "Empty Nest Syndrome" wall-hanging was adorable!
(Those are tiny appliqued flip-flops on the lower left.)

We skipped lunch with the ladies because I thought I had PT this afternoon.  Wasn't until we got home that I discovered that's not until tomorrow afternoon.  So we had time for some Rummikub.  Later Mom tried to sit outside and read while I ran some errands, but the wind chased her inside.  Tomorrow it's supposed to rain.

At 5:00 we picked up Alex from work and headed over to the nearby China Bistro for a delicious meal; he hadn't eaten anything all day, and was starving.  Over our dinner we discussed some final arrangements for our upcoming trip.

This evening was a little more Rummikub (neither of us gets much of a chance to play except when we visit each other.)  Now it's getting late, so think I'll climb into bed and read.
