Our lawnmower is getting returned today - such excitement!
Yesterday Tom weed-ate around the pool, which (not surprisingly) looks amazingly better without all the huge weeds growing up through the joints. He also weed-ate the back patio (again, major improvement), after which I used a screw driver to dig out dirt/weeds from several of the expansion joints (with many more left to go), and then liberally applied vinegar into the dug-out joints.
Vinegar is one of the best-known natural weed killers and has been used for this purpose for just about as long as people have been trying to rid their yards of weeds. You will be best served by picking up vinegar with 20% acetic acid, which you can purchase online or at your local garden center. The stuff you buy at the grocery store has only 5% acetic acid and is great for cleaning and all sorts of household tasks, but it will not kill weeds as effectively as vinegar with 20% acetic acid.
Once the pool perimeter is eventually all done (and it's going to take a considerable amount of work to complete) we can move on to sealing everything correctly!
When we watched a YouTube video of how to seal the joint where the deck meets the pool, it became patently obviously the "professionals" (to whom we paid BIG bucks a few years ago at the same time we had the pool itself resealed) left out the VERY important step of filling in with backer rods before applying the sealant.
In a late afternoon yesterday I made a quick hop over to PetSmart (left Brownie, who's hasn't quite gotten the hang of social distancing, home) to pick up another supply of dog food. Wore my N95 mask, and again was surprised to find virtually none of the employees there were wearing any type of mask.
Driving home, "ran into" Alex a block from the house on his bike. He was a bit taken aback by my answer when he asked where I'd gone (after offering twice over the past month to run that errand for me) so maybe next time he'll actually do it?
Woke around 2:00 this morning and then didn't go back to sleep for a couple of hours, so productivity levels for today are somewhat questionable.
First is a soak in the hot tub while I decide what chore to tackle first.
