I had an excellent tune-up at the chiropractor today;
everything fell into place easily and I feel great.

It was a beautiful day today, so this afternoon Alex and I took Brownie to the off-leash dog park near Cave Creek & Union Hills. I'm pleased to report that it was a great success, with Brownie behaving  himself.  Though there was only one other pooch in the small dog section when we arrived, it wasn't long before more and more showed up, so by the time we thought about leaving there was quite a crowd taking advantage of the weather.  However the enclosures are huge and will accommodate a very large number of dogs.

Before leaving we actually tried out the large dog section at my suggestions (Alex does not believe me about Brownie lunging at and trying to attack large dogs) and I was pleasantly surprised (but of course thrilled) that Brownie did not exhibit any of that aggressive behavior.  We will definitely be making regular trips back to the park, at least until the hot weather arrives.  Though there is plenty of comfortable seating, numerous leftover tennis balls scattered around, water bowls by the faucet, poop bags provided (though I had brought my own) sadly the few small trees there will not provide much shade.

This should not be a problem here ....

Brownie does seem a tad pooped out (he definitely got a lot of exercise) and spent the rest of the afternoon resting.  I, however, worked on the wedding quilt binding, and am closing in on the finish line!

When Mary and I attended the Conservation Expo we signed up to receive notices of hikes from the Desert Foothills Land Trust.  This afternoon at 3:30 an e-mail landed in my in-box announcing three dates for this hike (not open to the public) to the Cave Creek cave, each of which would only accept 20 people.  I didn't see it until 6:00, and when I tried to register all the dates had already filled their slots.  Oh well.

Join us as we take a trip back in history and explore the "Cave" for which Cave Creek is named. So much history lives within its walls. From the pecking of petroglyphs to Apache battles, the Cave has seen a lot!

This significant property has been protected forever by the Land Trust and guided visitations are made possible through the generosity and cooperation of multiple land owners. It is not open to the public, so this is your only way to see this incredible historic landmark. Don't miss out!

For details and to sigh up, click on the date you want to attend below. All hikes are limited to 20 persons per tour, and 4 persons per party. Registration will automatically close once the hike is filled.

The guided tour to the Cave, for which Cave Creek was named, is our most popular hike. The Cave is located on private property and is permanently protected by a conservation easement held by the Land Trust. Visits are very limited and trespassing is strictly prohibited, so this is your opportunity to see this local treasure and learn about the history within its walls.
