It was easy to fill both trashcans halfway today, one with already-pulled weeds and leftover mown grass in the backyard that just needed to be raked and deposited, the other from the three lantana bushes that I cut back to nubs in order to make it easier for Alex to dig them out this afternoon.  While we fully  expected them to have a root system, neither of us was prepared for what he uncovered as he dug.

There were really thick (at least 4-thumbs-worth) "runners" that snaked out into the center of the yard well over a dozen feet long.  Alex worked up a serious sweat as he kept pulling and pulling them to the surface.

There are now three holes waiting for me to fill them with aloe tomorrow morning.

Brownie and Vera joined us out front "helping" - but when a teen walking home from school was passing by on the other side of the street Vera ran over to say hello.   Luckily I noticed and hollered, because a pickup was coming toward her.  Alex raced out to collect her as I waved frantically at the pickup, worried the driver might not have noticed Vera since her gray color blends into that of the street.

Brownie, ever the Good Boy, knows to stay in the driveway unless "invited" by me to leave it.
